On May 6, 2024, at 06:40 UTC (08:40 local time), a powerful solar flare erupted from the Sun. The flare was classified as X4.5, making it the third-strongest flare of Solar Cycle 25. This follows four other X-class flares that erupted from the same active region, AR 3663, over the previous few days.
An increase in solar wind intensity is expected on May 8, with the greatest impact on Earth anticipated in the Indian Ocean region.
