The next Colloquium of the Astronomical Observatory will be held on Wednesday, October 30, at 2 PM in the Library.
Speaker: Prof. Dr. Dmitry Naumov, DLNP JINR Deputy Director, PI of JINR Neutrino Program
Topic: Unlocking the Secrets of the Universe's Catastrophic Events with Baikal-GVD neutrino telescope
Resume: Neutrino astronomy is a rapidly growing field, providing crucial insights into extreme astrophysical phenomena like supernovae and black hole environments. Neutrinos, unaffected by cosmic matter, serve as unique messengers from distant sources. The Baikal-GVD neutrino telescope, located in Lake Baikal, Russia, is one of the key instruments in this domain. With a current volume of about 0.65 km3 and further expansion planned, Baikal-GVD has already yielded important results, including the detection of a diffuse astrophysical neutrino flux.
The talk will be recorded and posted on the Observatory's Youtube channel.
