The next Colloquium of the Astronomical Observatory will be held on Wednesday, December 20, at 13h in the Library.
Speaker: Mile Karlica
Topic: Nonthermal radiation from high energy transients - some open questions and challenges
Resume:
Modeling the non-thermal signal of many high-energy transients is a fairly widespread procedure among astrophysicists, leading to the development of numerous methods. Despite this, the assumptions of the modeling often come more from hypothetical preferences than from observational data. This seminar addresses this issue in the modeling of gamma-ray bursts and radio supernovae, with significant implications for the modeling of many other high-energy astrophysical objects. In the seminar, we will show the necessity of relying on model-independent measurements of necessary parameters and of caution in setting "generally" accepted assumptions.
The talk will be recorded and posted on the Observatory's Youtube channel.
