At the Astronomical Observatory of Belgrade, two Research Units (RU) were established on September 18, 2023. One for space research and technologies and another for monitoring solar activity, climate change and light pollution. These two RU have a lot of common goals and the members of these units cooperate closely, especially in the field of satellite data processing. One of the first goals of RU for space research and technology is to build the first Serbian scientific satellite that will have several instruments on it, one of them will be used to observe the Sun, which will certainly be useful for the other RU for future research. The fields of satellite geo-navigation, Earth observation, light pollution and long-term climate change are of great importance for both RU. At the end of 2023, researchers from these two RU came up with the idea to form a scientific research group called Space Research and Geosciences, which will consist of all members of these RU. At the moment of establishment of the group, there are currently 4 people, two from each RU, although the plan is to hire a few more people who will then be automatically assigned to this research group.

Research group members:

  • Dr. Milan Stojanović (PI), research associate
  • Dr. Srđan Samurović, principal research fellow
  • Dr. Ivan Živanović, research associate
  • B.Sc. Eng. Igor Planjanin, junior research assistant
