Colloquium of the Astronomical Observatory

The colloquium of the Astronomical Observatory brings together the research staff and guests to present and discuss the results of research, methods and technologies in the fields of astronomy and astrophysics. The colloquium is usually held on Wednesdays at 1 PM in the Library of the Observatory. Past colloquiums can be found below, and on the official Youtube channel of the Observatory.

International conference "15th Serbian Conference on Spectral Line Shapes in Astrophysics" will be organized in the city of Niš, Serbia, in the period 9-13 June 2025, by the Astronomical Observatory. The official website of the conference is http://servo.aob.rs/scslsa/ or http://www.scslsa.matf.bg.ac.rs.

Spectral lines, their widths, and, more generally, their shapes are powerful diagnostic tools for probing emitting/absorbing gas in different astrophysical objects, from the solar system to the most distant objects in the universe - quasars. The emission/absorption lines of astrophysical objects are produced over a wide range of distances from an observer and under a wide range of physical and kinematic conditions. Therefore, in astrophysical objects lines from X-ray region (e.g., Fe α) to the radio region (e.g., radio recombination lines) wavelength range have been studied.

In parallel with this, experimental and theoretical investigations of laboratory plasmas are need for spectroscopic astrophysical research; in particular, the same atomic data are needed for line-shape calculations. This conference will bring together astronomers (observers and theoreticians) and physicists from Serbia and elsewhere to review the present stage of research, with the aim of improving our knowledge in this field, and to better understand the significance of emission/absorption lines for future astrophysical investigations.

The program will cover:

  • Spectral line phenomena in extragalactic objects
  • Stellar and interstellar spectral lines
  • Spectral lines in laboratory and general plasma

This is the 14th conference in the series. All materials (programme, talks, presentations, photos, etc.) from the previous meetings are available at http://servo.aob.rs/eeditions/SCSLSA.php.

The conference "Hundred Years of the Institutional Independence of the Astronomical Observatory" will be held in Belgrade from June 27 to 28, 2024, in the library of Astronomical Observatory, Volgina 7, 11060 Belgrade.

We cordially invite you to the VI Conference on Active Galactic Nuclei and Gravitational Lensing, which will ne held from June 2 to 6, 2024, on Zlatibor Mt. in Serbia.

This is the latest in the series of meetings dedicated to active galactic nuclei and gravitational lensing. The meeting will be held in person. It will include a number of review lectures covering relevant topics and the possibility to work on mini-projects.

More information can be found on the conference website.

Задовољство нам је да вас позовемо на XIV Српско-бугарску астрономску конференцију која ће се одржати у Врњачкој Бањи, у Србији, од 23. до 27. септембра 2024. године у хотелу Бреза.
